Vital Signs: NetSfere and Deutsche Telekom - Partners in Providing Time Saving and Life Saving Real-Time Healthcare Collaboration

Secure, agile mobile messaging is increasingly becoming vital for healthcare organizations looking for ways to streamline workflows, improve productivity and enhance collaboration to deliver better patient outcomes. Regulatory compliant mobile messaging platforms like NetSfere are helping healthcare organizations like Vestische Caritas-Kliniken GmbH (VCK), a medical provider in Germany, not only make communication and collaboration simple and secure but help provide a time saving immediacy of care that can help save lives.

VCK’s medical centers in Datteln and Waltrop selected NetSfere as their mobile messaging platform of choice through Deutsche Telekom’s T-Systems segment. Some of the key reasons VCK selected Deutsche Telekom and NetSfere include:

  • Security – NetSfere encrypts communications, making it compliant with the GDPR, allowing medical staff to safely transmit sensitive patient data and images.
  • Robust functionality - In addition to voice communications, screensharing, and video calling, NetSfere also offers chat and a broadcast feature and works with a wide range of devices including phones, tablets, and PCs.
  • Ease of use – Rollout of the platform is fast and easy, and the app makes it simple for emergency response teams and hospital staff to communicate with one another.

Dr. Dacuna da Silva, a senior physician at St. Vincenz Krankenhaus, began using NetSfere in early 2021 to optimize workflows and save critical time for patients.

For heart attack patients that time savings can often mean the difference between life and death. In this use case, suspicious ECGs can be sent directly from the patient’s location to the on-duty physician. This way, all the necessary preparations can be carried out before the patient’s arrival at the medical facility.

Two months after the introduction of NetSfere, Dr. Dacuna da Silva released initial data on the success of the project saying, “as a result of using NetSfere to communicate, we’re saving an average of 45 minutes per emergency response.”

Dr. Dacuna da Silva noted that in addition to being able to send images, NetSfere makes it easy for care teams facing uncertainty during an emergency response to hop on a video call with colleagues to ask for advice. Teams are also using NetSfere for coordination and decision making.

Bernd Schlüter, head of the central IT department at VCK, is also pleased with the solution, remarking that the rollout was quick and easy and thanks to NetSfere’s usability they were able to get started immediately without organizing any training.

VCK plans to expand the use of Netsfere in the region beyond the medical centers in Datteln and Waltrop. Hospitals including Castrop-Rauxel, Coesfeld, Oer-Erkenschwick and Elling- hausen would also like to use the collaboration platform to help save lives. A district-wide solution for Recklinghausen is also a possibility according to Schlüter.

With all the necessary administrative, physical and technical safeguards to comply with regulations, NetSfere is becoming the go to mobile messaging solution of healthcare organizations across the globe to improve workflows, enhance efficiency, optimize productivity, and collaborate in real-time to deliver lifesaving critical care.
